Frequently Asked Questions
Where is Bircher Voice Studio located?
Bircher Voice Studio is in Edmond, Oklahoma. In-person lessons meet in Daniel Trevor Bircher’s studio on the Oklahoma Christian University campus, near Memorial Road and Eastern Avenue. The studio serves singers from across the Oklahoma City metro, including Edmond, Oklahoma City, Norman, Moore, Yukon, and Guthrie.
Do you offer online voice lessons?
Yes. Lessons are available online by video to students anywhere in the United States, at the same rates as in-person lessons. The studio has taught students remotely since before the pandemic and many students combine in-person and online lessons depending on their schedule.
How much do voice lessons cost?
A 60-minute private lesson is $80. A 30-minute private lesson is $40. Lessons are scheduled and paid individually through Calendly and Stripe, with no semester contract or registration fee.
What ages do you teach?
The studio’s focus is high school singers, college students, and adults. Younger students who are serious (competitive and motivated) about singing are considered on a case-by-case basis after a first lesson.
Do you teach beginners?
Yes, provided the beginner is serious. Many adult students arrive with no formal training; what matters is the willingness to practice and the goal of singing well. The studio is not the right fit for a casual, try-it-once approach.
What styles do you teach?
Classical voice, opera, and musical theatre are the core of the studio. Mr. Bircher also works with singers in contemporary and church music, building the same technical foundation — breath, resonance, range, and diction — that carries across every style.
What’s the difference between a voice teacher and a vocal coach?
A voice teacher trains the instrument: technique, breath management, vowel shaping, register balance, range, and vocal health. A vocal coach works on the music: style, language, interpretation, and preparing a specific song or role. Mr. Bircher does both, which is why the studio describes its work as “private voice lessons and role/audition coaching.”
Do you prepare students for college auditions?
Yes. College audition preparation is a core part of the studio’s work: choosing repertoire that fits the singer and the program, preparing prescreen videos, and rehearsing the live audition. The Oklahoma City metro is home to three major musical theatre programs — Oklahoma City University, the University of Central Oklahoma, and the University of Oklahoma — and students here face a competitive field. Former students have been accepted to New York University, Boston Conservatory, Baylor University, and Texas State University.
Do you prepare singers for opera and young artist program auditions?
Yes. Mr. Bircher sang approximately thirty stage roles in nearly forty productions, including with the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi and Yale Opera, and formerly served as Conductor and Artistic Director of the Resonance Opera Young Artist Program. He coaches aria packages, role preparation, and diction in Italian, German, French, and English.
How often should I take lessons?
Weekly lessons produce the most consistent progress, and that is the recommended schedule for students preparing for auditions or performances. Adult students with limited time sometimes alternate 60-minute and 30-minute lessons. Because lessons are booked individually, you can set the pace that works for you.
What happens at a first lesson?
A first lesson is a working lesson, not a consultation. Expect to warm up, sing something you already know, and leave with specific technical work to practice. Bring a song you can sing from memory, in any style, and sheet music if you have it. There is no separate audition or placement process.
What is your cancellation policy?
Lessons may be rescheduled through Calendly up to 24 hours in advance. Lessons cancelled with less notice are charged in full.
Is the studio part of Oklahoma Christian University?
No. Bircher Voice Studio is an independent private studio owned by Daniel Trevor Bircher, who is also Director of Choral and Vocal Studies at Oklahoma Christian University. Private lessons meet in his campus office studio but are not a university program and are open to anyone.
What is Daniel Trevor Bircher’s background?
He is an American baritone with a Master of Music from the Yale School of Music and a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Abilene Christian University. He was recognized by the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions with the Francesco & Hilda Riggio Award, has performed as a soloist in some fifty masterworks, and has taught privately for more than twenty-five years.
